QUOTATION taken from the web site of Basswood Sporting Agency on Driven Boar in Croatia - " We had 5 sportsmen from the St Hubert Society who demonstrated the ultimate safety practice (all five succeeded in taking a boar.)" |
||
| Practical
training is given to St. Hubert Club members in the various shooting positions
that they might encounter in the field whilst involved in deer control and management. |
||
Shooting
with the aid of a stick. |
![]() |
Shooting
using a stick as an aid to steadiness is a common practise that enables a competent
shooter to take shots up to about 80 yards range. All stalkers are trained to
carry and use a stick in the field at all times. |
Shooting
from sitting or kneeling positions. |
![]() |
Both
sitting and kneeling provide the shooter with a very steady shooting position
where he is elevated sufficiently to see his target clearly over grass and low
cover. |
Shooting
using a tree for support. |
![]() |
Using
a tree for support provides an ideal position for shots out to as far as 100 yards.
It is most important that the barrel of the rifle should not come into contact
with the tree or any other hard object. |
Shooting
freehand. |
![]() |
Freehand
shoots should only be taken at very short ranges, normally not exceeding 40 yards,
and only then by a shooter who is totally competent in this particular discipline.
It demands constant practice at targets to achieve the necessary degree of skill
required to use this shot in the field. |
Shooting from the
prone position. |
![]() | The prone position is one of the most steady positions available to the shooter giving him maximum support and steadiness. Opportunities for this shot are limited for woodland stalking and it is more commonly used on the open hill. |
| AT
ALL TIMES SHOOTERS MUST ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE CORRECTLY IDENTIFIED THEIR TARGET
AND THAT THE BACKGROUND TOWARDS WHICH THEY ARE SHOOTING IS PERFECTLY SAFE - IF
THERE IS ANY DOUBT AT ALL A SHOT MUST NOT BE TAKEN. | ||
